Week 23: Jan. 11 – Jan. 15
Happy Friday, Roadrunners!
I don’t know about you, but this week seemed to last two weeks. Just a quick reminder that there is no school on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. day! Try to enjoy the beautiful weather. I plan on going to the river with my kids to see the horses and enjoy our amazing Arizona winter!
This week, we got back into the swing of things. See below for what we did in your student(s) class.
English IV: We continued reading Romeo and Juliet and are half way through. This play is a bit of a challenge and the work can be a tad difficult, so please help me by encouraging your students to pay attention to class, and to ask questions as soon as they come up.
English III: We started our Argument essay unit and spent much of the week reading published, research pieces on the pros/cons of cell phones. Next week, students will begin drafting their own arguments.
English II- Honors: We continued reading To Kill a Mockingbird and just finished hearing the testimony from both sides. Next week we read the closing arguments; students are really starting to have an opinion about this book and I am enjoying them expressing their voices here.
English AP/DE: We continued our discussion on Family this week by reading several opinion pieces. Now that we have seen what an argument essay looks like in regards to family, students are ready to write their own! They worked on a thesis Thursday and drafted today, Friday. They will have a full first draft due in class by Tuesday.
Juniors and Seniors: We have ASVAB testing next Tuesday (Seniors) and Thursday (Juniors). For those students online, they are encouraged to come to school by 8:15 as testing will begin at 8:30am. Please reach out to Mrs. Taylor if you have any concerns.
Needs: My pencils keep walking off, and kids keep asking for them. So…my class supply is dwindling. I will happily welcome any supplies you want to send my way.
That is everything for now. Please have an amazing weekend. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out should any questions arise.
Best,
Ms. Kovach
