Week 21 Update

In AP English Literature, English I Honors, English III, English IV

Happy Friday, Roadrunners!

This has been a very interesting week. Lots of students are out and several teachers have been out, including myself. I made a brief appearance on Thursday this week and the rest of the days I was out. Please stay hydrated, wash your hands, rest and take care of each other. My hope is that this 3 day weekend will allow us all to heal, so we can come back healthy and ready to go.

Because of the circumstances, work has been fairly minimal. Please see below for specifics.

English I-Honors: We read the first 4 chapters of our book, A Walk in the Woods, and then spent a few days discussing a poem by Robert Frost. We are discussing the importance of shutting down technology and returning to nature. As such, students were asked to spend time outside this weekend to find the Beauty in Nature. They need to take photographs and when we return, we will compose a poem of our own.

English III: The focus this week was on the Transcendental and Romantic Literary Period. Students read a short excerpt, took a comprehension quiz, and then worked on an informative poster. For those kiddos at home, they are welcome to do this digitally or they may do it on paper and upload photos until they return.

English IV: This class also focused on a specific literary period…the Enlightenment. Students read a short excerpt, took a comprehension quiz, and then worked on an informative poster. For those kiddos at home, they are welcome to do this digitally or they may do it on paper and upload photos until they return.

AP Literature: We wrapped up or reading of The Metamorphosis and finished our notes. Next week we will have a Socratic Seminar and prepare for a unit exam. I am eager to hear all of their interpretations regarding this masterpiece.

I gave a lot of grace this week. Although several assignments were beyond the date of acceptance, I have allowed students to make them up. I want this semester to begin on a strong foot. You may notice the grade book changing frequently depending on when they get missing work turned in. I will not be accepting the Social Media Getting to Know You PPT after tonight!! I gave them an extra week on this; they simply needed to plug in pictures, gifs, etc, that fit each category. No Social Media use is required, nor is having any knowledge of the various platforms.

I believe that is everything for now. I am planning to rest up this weekend, watch my daughter play volleyball and get ready for a strong week.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out should something come up.

Have a great weekend.

Best,

Ms. Kovach
