Kovach’s English > Week 10

 In English III, English IV

Happy Friday Roadrunners!

Fall break is quickly upon us and this week has been a busy one. With homecoming happening the week after break and getting all final assignments in, campus has been a flurry of excitement.

We spent this week reflecting on our first quarter and what we can do to be even more successful for quarter 2. We set goals for ourselves and actively looked at ways to improve our work. I am eager to see how well we follow these goals once we return from fall break.

Since quarter 1 was a bit unusual in that we started online and transitioned to in-person (for most of us), I tended to grade a bit more leniently than usual. Come quarter 2, I will be holding students to a higher standard. All late work must be turned in within 4 weeks for any credit; assignments not turned in after four weeks will receive a zero. These assignments go in the grade book as missing for two weeks and then I change them manually to a zero. Please make sure that your student is checking their IC weekly at least once.

Cell phones are a distraction. After break, they need to be stowed in their backpacks away from them or placed on my desk during the class period. I am also transitioning to more pen/paper writing instead of digital. Make sure that your student has loose leaf paper and a writing utensil.

The week after break is Homecoming week and we have set Spirit Days. Let’s come back to school ready to show our support by rockin’ the music of the 60s through the 90s!

Monday- NO SCHOOL
Tuesday (60’s vs. 70’s) – Wear your 60’s or 70’s band shirts
Wednesday (80’s) – Wear or dress as your favorite pop or rock star from the 80’s
Thursday (90’s)- Wear or dress as your favorite boy/girl group or favorite hip hop artist
Friday (super spirit)- Wear your STCS colors! Freshman (white) Sophomores (yellow) Juniors (green) Seniors (black)

I want to finish by saying “thank you” to those parents that I had the pleasure of chatting with over parent/teacher conferences. My apologies for sounding so horrid though; every fall break I get sick and my throat is always the first to go. If you want to visit with me, but were unable to make it in, please reach out and we can set something up after break.

Have a great week off with your kiddos!

Best,

Ms. Kovach
