Kovach’s English Announcements > Week 19

 In English III, English IV

Happy Thursday, Roadrunners!

I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving last week. My apologies for not emailing; I was out sick.

It seems like many students felt that since I was out last week that they didn’t need to do any of the assigned work. So, we spent the first part of this week playing catch up on what was missed, in addition to any prior missing assignments. It seems that many students are forgetting the importance of a few things, and I am hoping you can help me get them back on track. This is a bit lengthy, so please hang in there with me.

* Students need to come to class. That is of the utmost importance and I am amazed at how many students are failing to attend school, either in person or virtually.

* Not only do students need to show up to class, but they need to be active, participate, ask questions, and do work assigned.

* I am expecting ALL students to come to class next semester with working cameras. If their camera does not work, please notify the front office. If a student DOES NOT have their camera on, they are not present in my class. In person students do not come to class with bags on their heads, so virtual students can certainly come to class with their cameras on. If this is a problem, please email me. Thank you for understanding.

* Assignments need to be completed in a timely manner. Many students are simply choosing not to do their work. At all. We spent a good chunk of this week discussing accountability. Not only accountability in the classroom, but at home, with their friends, and at their future jobs. We also spent time discussing plagiarism. In addition to not completing assignments, students are choosing to cheat. This is increasing in frequency and is quite concerning.

I have discussed all these things with students in great detail, but would really appreciate it if I could have some follow up with parents at home. We are all in this together, and I am asking for your help.

We started our ELA MAP testing today and will conclude tomorrow. I am encouraging students to take their time, and do their best. Having accurate data helps me curtail my teaching to each students’ individual needs, so when they rush through it or randomly guess I am unable to help them as best I could with accurate data. Please remind them to try their best tomorrow and next week (for those who need to finish up).

All assignments are due next Friday, Dec. 11 in order to be calculated for Semester 1. Please keep in mind that I am not accepting any work that is more than 4 weeks late. There are a few students in danger of not passing this semester, which means they will have to take another English class next year. They still have time to get their grades up. Every day, I talk to those kids and encourage them to reach out, ask for help, and come and see me when necessary. I am here to help and I want them all to be successful.

I believe that is everything. Thanks for reading this far. I hope you have an amazing Friday and weekend. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything or have any questions.

Best,

Ms. Kovach
