English > Week 2
Happy Friday, Roadrunners!
Week two is in the books and what troopers these students have been. We began the week correcting quiz mistakes on class policies and procedures. Every single student should know my class rules, late work policies, absences, etc. This will help them be successful.
I introduced a class assignment that involves (*insert suspenseful music)… reading a book on their own!!! For the first two quarters I am requiring students to read a minimum of 250 pages per quarter. This book must be grade level appropriate. As you may or may not know, I have a good size library in my classroom, so many students are simply borrowing books. Please remind them that these are my own personal books and to treat them with care. Student are allowed to choose a book outside my classroom. If you have any questions about this, please check out the handout each student received; it should be in their ELA folder. Many students are embracing this challenge and I love to see students reading. If you have any books collecting dust and would like to donate, please feel free to send them in. My class appreciates you!
Tuesday and Wednesday, students took a readiness screener to let me know where they stand academically. As Mr. Tauscher said in his last email, many students across the US have lost a year and a half of learning, so I am testing to see where I need to start and what I need to focus on.
Thursday and Friday we started our ELA MAP testing and we will finish on Monday! I emphasized just how important these scores are for myself and the school so we can accurately teach these kiddos on areas they need taught! So far, I am extremely impressed with the level of seriousness they appear to have. I have not had to ask anyone to slow down and take it serious. I’m excited to see what their scores are.
I believe that is everything for now. I know that was a mouthful. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Also, make sure to log into Infinite Campus over the weekend to check your student’s grades. Let’s catch missing assignments early on!
Have an amazing weekend!
Best,
Ms. Kovach
