English w/Kovach > Week 28

 In English III, English IV

Happy Friday Roadrunners! Two weeks until Spring Break! Can you believe it? It couldn’t have come at a better time either; these kids are ready for a break and to recharge their batteries. I’m right there with them. Until then, we need to stay the course, stay focused and finish Quarter 3 giving it our all!

A quick reminder: assignments are due by 4pm Friday if they are to be graded for the next week. I do my grading over the weekend, up until 4pm on Monday. Work turned in after 4pm Friday will not be graded until after Tuesday afternoon. Please check with your student to make sure they are turning their work in on time.

Here’s what we have been doing…

English IV: We finally finished our unit on Shakespeare and are in the beginning stages of satire. This is a quick unit, but a fun one. All students were asked to find an example of satire over the weekend to share with the class on Monday. Please make sure they do this.

English III: We are finally at the end of our papers and it has been a struggle. Lack of motivation for this group is an issue. At this point, each student should have an introduction with a three prong thesis statement, three body paragraphs, a counterargument, and a conclusion. This all needs to be completed by class time Monday! Please check in and make sure they are on task. If your student needs help with their writing I am available before and after school most days. I can meet in person or create a virtual meet. Up to them. They just need to ask.

English II-Honors: Students were introduced to the Declaration of Human Rights. We had some great discussions of each article within this declaration and are now looking for violations in a short text. All of this this leading up to our unit on the Holocaust. We will be reading Night by Elie Wiesel. For virtual students, I will have copies of the book at the front desk. Please stop in sometime soon to pick that up. If you are wanting to buy your own copy that is fine too; that allows students the ability to write in their books!

AP/DE: We wrapped up our 2nd debate and then completed an AP Progress Check. We started our next unit today and will continue to progress through the curriculum at a steady pace.

That is everything. Please, if your student is struggling, have them reach out to me. I can not help them if I don’t know they need help. I can meet before and after school most days; this can be either virtually or in person. Just have them shoot me an email and I will be there.

Have a great weekend.

Best,
Ms. Kovach
