English w/Kovach > Week 25

 In English III, English IV

Good Afternoon, Roadrunners!

This has been an interesting (and wet) week and I am thinking this weekend will be more of the same. Students are gearing up for the STEM fest/ Science Fair that takes place next Friday and Saturday. I have heard some chatter from the students that they are not feeling prepared (or maybe they haven’t even started yet), so take a minute to check in with your student to see where they are and if they need help!

It’s hard to believe the first month of 2020 is almost done; time is flying like crazy. Please take a peek below at what your students are working on in their English class.

English IV > We are nearing the end of Romeo and Juliet and have spent time this week talking about figurative techniques and foreshadowing. The tension is starting to build and I anticipate us finishing this play next week.

English III > This week was a struggle and students are putting themselves into a bind. I give ample time for work in class and make every effort to keep them on track, but occasionally they get sidetracked, which means…homework! If a student does not complete an assignment in class then it needs to be done that night at home. None of this work should take very long, but it needs to be done in order for the next class period to work efficiently. We had a long talk this week about accountability and working hard. I am hoping all ears were listening.

English II Honors > We finished To Kill a Mockingbird and are putting the final touches on our discussion and their workbooks. I introduced their final project for this text and I think they are all excited. There will not be a formal assessment, so I am expecting students to put forth their best effort. I have no doubt they will all knock it out of the park though.

English AP/DE > We began a new unit…DEBATE! These students are very opinionated and passionate and I can tell they are eager to get to work. While they were assigned topics and groups (for various reasons) they should still find some sort of buy in or interest. I’m excited to see how this progresses over the next two weeks.

I believe that is everything for now. Should you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via email. Have an amazing weekend.

Best, Ms. Kovach
