AP Literature: January 21-24

 In AP English Literature

Hello, Roadrunners.

We are in the midst of Dr. Frankenstein’s tale and the kids are either loving it…or not loving it. It is certainly dry literature written during the Gothic period, so it is rather heavy in the imagery and less so in plot and action. Students are being asked to read anywhere between 3-6 chapters an evening. Please make sure they are completing the assigned reading before school the next day. There are also lessons they need to have done prior to class the next day to coincide with the reading; this helps ready them for class conversation. We are struggling right now to get the reading done, so if you could check in with your student to make sure they are on task over the weekend I would greatly appreciate it. For Monday, they should have read Letters 1-4, and Chapters 1-16. These have already been assigned throughout the week, but if they fell behind, this weekend would be a great time to get all caught up. We will spend another week and a half on Frankenstein before moving onto our next unit.

We will be reading a piece of Existential literature next and I know some students prefer to have their own copy of the book. I do encourage students to write in their personal books as they read, and unfortunately they are unable to do this with class copies. If you would like to purchase our next book, it is The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka; I have attached the link here.
