Happy Friday, Roadrunners!

It was a great week; I might say it was our best week yet. Before we get into that though, just a quick reminder about our football game tonight. It is a BLACK OUT home game and channel 12News will be on hand for interviews after the game. Come out and support our Roadrunners! Word on the street is that there will be pizza as well!

In case you missed it, we don’t have school on Monday due to it being Labor Day! Enjoy the long weekend.

In terms of classes, please see below:

English I- Honors: We began a new unit and focused on content vocabulary, recognizing genre and academic vocabulary. Next week we start a new short story. This is a lively group and they always have amazing things to say. I’m looking forward to what next week has to offer.

English III: We finished up our first unit and are now beginning our second. This one focuses on Early American Literature. Before we dive into complicated texts though, we worked on some vocabulary and figuring out the multiple meanings of words. Next week will be full of reading and discussion. Please make sure to send your students well rested and prepared.

English IV: We ended our first unit and are now focusing in on the Medieval Period. We will begin reading Beowulf next week. Before we do that though, we started with some vocabulary today. Beowulf was written during the Anglo-Saxon era (we believe) and some of the terminology is quite foreign today.

AP English Literature: We started our Short Story Boot Camp and began with a discussion of Characterization. Once we got our feet wet on the main components of characterization, we analyzed and discussed several short stories. It was great to use everything we’ve been working so hard on the past few weeks. I’m eager to continue our “Boot Camp” next week.

That is everything for now. Please remember that I will be putting grades in by 4pm on Tuesday. In order to be graded, students needed to get all work turned in by their due dates or by 4pm today (Friday). Anything turned in after 4pm today will not get graded until the following weekend.
