Week 22 Update

In AP English Literature, English I Honors, English III, English IV

Hello, Roadrunners!

What a busy week we had. Our classes were almost back to normal size and we are slowly working on getting everyone caught up. Please remember that if your student is feeling sick please keep them home and remember to call the front office. Students with excused absences have extra time to finish assignments.

Many students took the ASVAB test on Tuesday, but let’s see what else we worked on throughout the week.

English IV: Satire. Satire. Satire. We looked at the different types of Satirical Devices and analyzed several examples. We then finished out the week by reading Jonathon Swift’s “A Modest Proposal”. The students were very surprised and shocked by this reading. Have them tell you what it’s about.

AP Literature: We discussed our novella, The Metamorphosis and then prepared for the final test on Friday.

English I-Honors: Nature is at the forefront of our discussions right now. So this week, we finished composing our own poems on nature and then discussed a poem by Mary Oliver. Over the weekend, students were asked to read Chapters 5-8 in A Walk in the Woods. Check in with them to make sure this was completed. There will be a quiz tomorrow.

English III: We spent the bulk of this week reading “The Fall of the House of Usher” by Edgar Allen Poe. This was a complex read, full of abstract language, ideas and many parallels. We will finish our discussion on it come Monday.

That is all for now. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

Best,

Ms. Kovach
